History

Founded in 1949 The Dream Theatre in Russell traces its roots back to an earlier downtown theater that was destroyed by fire. In 1949, the current Dream Theatre was built to replace the original theater and quickly became a centerpiece for entertainment and community gatherings in Russell. Like many small-town theaters, it later closed as larger multiplex cinemas and home entertainment became more common. In 2000, local volunteers and community leaders, working through the Russell Arts Council, restored and reopened the theater as a nonprofit community theater dedicated to preserving local history and providing affordable entertainment. Today, the Dream Theatre continues to serve the community through movies, special events, fundraisers, and volunteer-driven programming that helps keep the historic theater alive for future generations.
